Position

trubel&co is eager to welcome a part-time Associate Director, Instructional Design & Learning to offer their experience designing, implementing, and measuring educational programs, while advancing the pursuit of justice. This role will involve a mix of instructional design, educational coaching, impact measurement, standards alignment, and curricular research, and new program development, and the role will report directly to the Executive Director. This position is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in refining existing educational programs and designing new programs to meet market demand. As with many start-up organizations, there may be additional ad-hoc support needed across the organization, including partnership development, communications, and client sourcing.

trubel&co was formally founded in 2022, and this role is to help extend our pedagogy to new communities, classrooms, and mediums. Within an ambitious nonprofit startup, this role offers agency and potential to grow as developed. trubel&co has impacted 1000+ youth through our courses and workshops, with strong aspirations for scale. We are looking for a creative, research-driven, and passionate candidate who has a strong interest in liberatory innovation, educational equity, and early-stage ventures. You will be a strategic thinker and a real doer, someone who takes initiative to develop and implement creative ideas to help our learners gain the skills, tools, and agency to tackle the problems they care about the most to empower our community of diverse trubelmakers. The ideal candidate has experience of designing educational programs, with a priority on experiences that center data, STEM, civics, and/or environmental justice.

Responsibilities

Instructional Design and Curriculum Development

Internal Programmatic Instructional Design (30%)

• Scope end-to-end curriculum, lessons, and learning modules with clear objectives, assessments, and alignment to standards (e.g., NGSS, C3, ISTE)
• Build reusable workshops-in-a-box for core offerings and refresh existing materials
• Develop instructor manuals, rubrics, assessments, teaching tools, and supporting media (audio, short videos, simulations, role plays, games) with clear copy for instructional text, audio scripts, and video scripts
• Connect curriculum to internal impact measures and host office hours for staff support
• Partner with the Associate Director of Programs to manage instructional staff (facilitators, TAs), standardize materials, scaffold extended programs, and refine activities
• Champion pedagogical best practices, modeling instructional strategies for data literacy and critical civic inquiry, ensuring lesson plans reflect youth voice, current issues, and changing sociopolitical contexts

Open Access Curricula Development (20%)

• Support pilots, testing, and approaches to licensing and provisioning for open materials
• Create ready-to-use classroom activities and teacher resources that work with common tools
• Align lessons to common U.S. standards and include a simple guide for swapping in local data or examples
• Establish a simple system for public sharing (e.g., an OER workflow): Creative Commons licensing recommendations, metadata and tagging, versioning, and accessibility checks
• Write plain-language teacher guides and one-page quick-start sheets so teachers can use materials right away
